Hirayama works as a cleaner for public toilets in Tokyo. He leads a simple and secluded life that seems to satisfy him completely. Away from his highly structured everyday life, he devotes himself passionately to his music, which he enjoys from audio cassettes, and his love of literature, which he spends his evenings immersing himself in second-hand paperbacks. But unexpected encounters gradually bring to light details of his past that he thought he had long forgotten.
