Performance Formel: Marionette – Leipzig von Suse Weber

The walk-in installation Formel:Marionette - Leipzig is part of Suse Weber's series of Emblematic Sculptures. The artist presents pictorial vocabulary on a support structure, which she repeatedly rearranges in performances, similar to the parts of a sentence. Weber incorporates cultural symbols and materials that, for example, make references to her childhood in the GDR or the Saxon coat of arms. Archive images of the state dance ensemble of the GDR show depictions of professions and social stereotypes. The artist will be staging three performances during the exhibition. The visual vocabulary will be rearranged according to a narrative developed together with the audience. The marionette belonging to the installation serves as a tool - it holds the visual vocabulary - but also as a metaphor. In her work, Weber dissolves the strict division between work, artist and audience and asks: "Who is playing" and "Who is being played"?
