Performance von Jakub Choma

As part of the exhibition opening of "Healing Through Fatigue", Jakub Choma will performatively activate his spatial installation.

In his first institutional solo exhibition, the artist Jakub Choma transfers elements from digital game worlds into a spatial installation that captivates the audience with its complex, nested levels, hybrid material combinations and chaotic, artistic character.

He transforms the exhibition hall of the Heidelberger Kunstverein into a dungeon-like terrain that visitors can explore like an open-world level. The title Healing Through Fatigue refers to the well-known gaming motif of losing a character's life force if the predetermined game limits are exceeded while roaming around. But precisely where death by exhaustion threatens in the game, Choma sees the potential for self-empowerment in the context of artistic strategies.

The complex overlapping and interpenetration of digital game worlds and analog material structures in Choma's artistic practice relates to current discussions about what is referred to as the post-Internet. In other words, the view that the net has spread into all areas of life, continues to proliferate there and that even physical reality is always saturated with digital logics.

Jakub Choma was born in 1995 in Name, Slovakia. From 2014 to 2023, he studied Fine Arts at the Academy for Arts, Architecture and Design AAAD in Prague, where he lives today.
