About dealing with pandemics from the emergence of the plague until today - told by the plague itself.
Planet of viruses - Is the next pandemic just a matter of time? Powerlessness, being overwhelmed by protective measures, restrictions on basic rights, suppressed questions. Narrated by the plague, it takes us on a journey through the souls of those affected by the pandemic.
In 1772, Defoe vividly describes how the authorities denied the danger, then, after the city was sealed off and escape was out of the question, panic, selfishness and generosity spread; some were applauded while they lovingly sacrificed their lives caring for the sick. Some broke into empty houses and took what was made of gold or silver, often torn from the hands of the corpses. A leaden calm settled over London for long months - it was better not to be in the streets; while sensible and senseless government measures to finally put a stop to the plague flourished picturesquely.
PEST vs. ROBOT is a mixed-media production with photos, video art & scenes from Daniel Defoe's fictional account The Plague of London from 1772 and from Kristóf Szabó: PEST vs. ROBOT - Social Robots and the COVID Pandemic from 2021.
