Anyone who simply starts to listen to the extensive discography of Peter Cat Recording Co. will be overwhelmed by the variety of styles and genre influences. While many artists and bands resist genre classification for fear of damning comparisons, with the Indian alternative rock band from New Delhi it simply doesn't seem possible to categorize the constantly reunited sound into even a rough category. From gypsy jazz and cabaret to disco and funk elements, bossa supernova and ballroom waltz, the quintet consisting of singer Suryakant Sawhney, drummer Karan Singh, bassist Dhruv Bhola and multi-instrumentalists Rohit Gupta and Kartik Sundareshan harmoniously combine sounds from different decades and cultures. The common thread running through the sound of Peter Cat Recording Co. is its liveliness and danceability, which the quintet showcases for the first time on their debut album "Bismillah" from 2019. Rich horns meet piano arrangements, even encountering electronic elements here and there and creating a summery, lively feel over the course of ten songs. Again and again, you get the impression that sounds that don't really belong together by nature are not only tamed by the group, but also puzzled into a large, harmonious sound structure. This continues on the second album "BETA", which was released last year. On "BETA", Peter Cat Recording Co. continue their sound - and present the new work on tour in July. The Indians are also coming to Germany for one date: at the Technikum in Munich.
