Experience the festive atmosphere of the Pentecost Vespers of the world-famous Dresden Kreuzchor at Pentecost. On Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 5:00 pm, a very special musical experience awaits you in the Kreuzkirche Dresden, allowing the Pentecost message to shine in all its glory.

The focus will be on the festive cantata "Erschallet, ihr Lieder, erklinget, ihr Saiten!" BWV 172 by Johann Sebastian Bach. This masterpiece, which Bach first performed in Weimar in 1714, is a shining example of his early cantata art.

The work is a musical homage to the Holy Spirit and the joy of Pentecost. It begins with a festive chorus that transports the audience into the solemnity of the moment with timpani and trumpets. Bach uses a rich and colourful orchestration that symbolizes the appearance of the Holy Spirit and expresses the joy of believers in God's gifts of grace.

A central aspect of the cantata is the aria for the bass, in which the Holy Spirit is praised as the "Highest Comforter who refreshes me". Another special feature is the duet between soprano and bass, which depicts the intimate relationship between the Holy Spirit and the soul of the believer.
