So the path to modernity leads from socialism to veganism. My little niece recently asked me: "Doesn't your black pudding make you throw up?" Yes, but unlike her millet and quinoa casserole, at least I can get the stuff down before I vomit!
And who hasn't taken a look at the back of a packet of soup in the supermarket: explosion-dried celery, reaction-flavoured beef, monosodium glutamate ... This is sold to us today as "Alsatian onion pot". But it sounds more like "goulash à la astronaut"! But if food is political, then it also needs responsible consumers. But what exactly does that mean? Organic food is already available at Lidl: the chickens are happy, but there's a poor sod behind the till!
Germans are so keen on organic that the stuff often has to be trucked in from China. So an organic cucumber often has to travel 10,000 kilometers by air. From a climate perspective, it doesn't matter whether you drive to the health food store around the corner in an SUV. After all, it swallows biodiesel made from genetically modified soy, grown by indigenous ex-jungle dwellers in Brazil ... Well, cheers then!
