About the movie:
Neo (Keanu Reeves) lives a seemingly ordinary life until he learns that the world around him is not real, but a simulation - the Matrix. Led by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), he delves into the hidden reality and confronts the question of whether the world as we know it really exists or is just an illusion.

After the movie:
Following the film, philosopher Dr. Simon Wimmer (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf) discusses external world skepticism with the audience: can we be sure that there is an external world independent of us? Or could everything we experience be a kind of illusion?

Watching exciting films and then philosophizing in the cinema? As part of the Philosophy & Film series, philosophers from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf give short keynote speeches after selected film screenings in which they make interesting connections between the film shown and philosophical topics. Afterwards, the audience is invited to discuss with the experts in the movie theater. Three events are planned at the Bambi movie theater in Düsseldorf.
