Pidgins

Pidgins is an experiment with percussive languages. The duo from Mexico City transforms the oral and rhythmic methods of traditional trance rituals by phasing metric, melodic and rhetorical phrases. These pattern systems form the grammar that pidgins use to construct linguistic riddles - from productivity mantras to guided de-meditations. Pidgins speak in such languages to challenge contemporary trance states - managerial class dogmas, self-help literature and new age therapies.percussionist Milo Tamez's drumming is based on decades of polyrhythmic study. In his work he uses melo-rhythmic percussive textures in multidimensional patterns. Vocalist and electro-acoustician Aaron With recites technocratic jargon mantras whose word sequences gradually change to reveal hidden meanings.

The trio around Munich-based percussionist and composer Simon Popp beats its way through polyrhythmic structures with a fine sense of timing and mood. It contrasts earthy and airy sounds, blurs the boundaries between the electronic and acoustic worlds and thus makes a powerful statement about what contemporary percussion music can be today: A lush soundscape that utilizes the full range of all percussion instruments.
