Liturgy is the project of Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, whose yearning, energetic "transcendental black metal" sits at the intersection of metal, experimental classical music and sacred ritual.

Celebrated for their fusion of sincere emotion, compositional complexity, stylistic daring and intense live energy, Liturgy is both a medium and platform for drama and theology. It was founded in 2005 by Hunt-Hendrix in the context of Brooklyn DIY as a solo project while she was studying philosophy and classical composition at Columbia University. In 2009, Hunt-Hendrix sparked a lively discussion in the music world with their lyric "Transcendental Black Metal," and after expanding to a quartet, they made a worldwide splash in 2011 with their second album Aesthethica, fusing black metal with math rock and infusing that form with a counterintuitively loving, emotional energy.

In May, Haela will be coming to Europe on a solo tour.

Opening the evening will be rsn | n. Behind the abbreviations RSN and N are two music artists, each special in their own right, but congenial in their interplay. The special thing about rsn are the drones that are consistently thought through to the end, which manifest themselves in the course of the compositions, some of which are over 15 minutes long, and are overlaid by further ambient surfaces in order to switch from calm and silence to dissonance - but this happens almost imperceptibly.
