Pop-Out! Festival des 3D-Films

For the third time, Cinema Quadrat is hosting a festival of 3D film, in which well-known and, above all, lesser-known films will thrill audiences in three dimensions on the big screen over the course of a weekend - a unique event in Germany!

Under the motto "The Far East within reach", this time the focus is on 3D films set in East Asia. In addition to local film productions, this also includes travelogues by Western filmmakers and international co-productions. Anyone suffering from wanderlust does not have to book an expensive plane ticket: A pop-out season ticket is all you need and provides quick relief! With 8 feature films and one documentary - in the presence of the director - we are taking a very special cinematic round trip to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea.

Only very rarely are older works from the more than 100-year history of stereo cinema shown. We want to change that, because there is a lot to discover!

Our journey starts on Friday with a space vision double feature that takes us to both Japan and South Korea. While Arch Oboler's DOMO ARIGATO offers zen-like, cinematic tourism, the other films of the evening focus on the special effects cinema of the Tokusatsu genre: with the Japanese icons Kamen Rider and Godzilla, as well as the King Kong impersonator Ape, explosions, destruction and lots of fun pop-outs are guaranteed. On Saturday, Hong Kong legends Stephen Chow and Tsui Hark will take us to the Chinese shores, where they will demonstrate all their skills in action comedy and visually stunning wuxia tales respectively. The evening will be no less action-packed, but much less family-friendly, with a classic kung-fu brawler from the 70s and the infamous erotic film 3D SEX AND ZEN! On Sunday, we will welcome Martin Hans Schmitt as our guest, who will tell us about his stay in North Korea in his travel film and in a personal conversation. Finally, we will end our journey with quiet arthouse fare that takes us into the neon lights of Chinese cities as well as into the wilderness of Mongolia.
