Potsdamer Platz - Ein Blick auf 30 Jahre Klimaanpassung

Potsdamer Platz deserves a second look by anyone who wants to recognize and implement climate adaptation in new and existing buildings.

It shows how rainwater use, evaporation and shading were specifically designed 30 years ago - despite the upcoming high-rise buildings.

Public spaces will also play a central role in climate adaptation in 2025. Since 2022, the entire district has been undergoing further development by the private owner Brookfield Properties: The neighborhood is becoming car-free, greener and pedestrian-friendly.

Nature-oriented measures such as a rainwater garden, more trees, a water feature, more seating and a new lighting concept enhance the square and put the focus on people. Sustainability is already part of the business model here.

As part of our 4th TreeTour, Christiane Heiß will guide you around Potsdamer Platz and, with the help of green roof and rainwater management expert Dipl.-Ing. Marco Schmidt, explain the technical principles of the design, the importance of the trees and other nature-oriented measures to cool the district.
