Potsdamer Tanztage 2025: Vástádus Eana – The Answer is Land

Community, kinship and our shared connection to nature and the earth are the main themes of Vástádus Eana - The Answer is Land, a soulful piece between polyphonic yoiks - traditional Sami songs -, spiritual practices and dance.

The audience experiences a demonstration in the open air: women dressed in black and wearing traditional red caps use megaphones to sing yoiks, Sami ritual songs, as an act of resistance. The group then moves into the performance space, where the dancers continue the moving songs and allow them to become the leitmotif of the performance. Song and dance merge into intense moments between restraint, explosion, intimacy and consolation. Inspired by the poem of the same name, Vástádus Eana - The Answer is Land is a powerful manifesto, a living tribute to the Sami people, whose unique songs combine deep emotional expressiveness with nature, people and spirituality.
