Sunday, July 13, 2025, 14:45 -17:00, Filmhaus Köln

The 4th year of the *Mentoring Program of the Filmhaus Köln presents its work! A total of nine medium-length and feature-length films have been created, which are now celebrating their premiere at the Filmhaus. They will be shown in 4 blocks on July 12 and 13.

The following films will be shown in block 4:

Kyiv/ Untitled, 41 min., Maryna Dmytryk
Ukrainian with German subtitles
Despite daily missile attacks and nightly curfews, which have continued since the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, both everyday and cultural life continue to take place in Kyiv. In the midst of circumstances that force them to fight for survival, artists pursue their creative work and ensure that something beautiful, genuine and "normal" can emerge even in the worst of times. In conversations with an artist, a bartender and the director's younger brother, the focus is on art, everyday life, war, the altered perception of reality and psychological strategies for adapting to this state of emergency.

Where we will be, 57 min, Kaan Çelimli
A step forward for you, a step further away from your roots. Over the years, the filmmaker of Turkish origin had actually rid himself of cultural obligations and expectations. But when he is about to move in with his girlfriend, he is once again confronted with traditional values. In an identity crisis, he seeks advice from three childhood friends. "Where We Will Be" accompanies the filmmaker on a personal journey between origin and self-determination. Through conversations, everyday encounters and moments of silence, a multi-layered portrait emerges of a young generation searching for its place between loyalty and individual freedom.

*This program particularly supports people aged 18 and over who have not yet had the opportunity to try their hand at filmmaking. At the beginning of the program, the participants were introduced to dramaturgy, directing, editing and other tools of documentary work in a series of workshops. To this end, the Filmhaus Köln organized six workshops with experts from the fields of idea development, camera, directing, sound and editing. During the creation of the films, the mentors continued to provide the participants with advice and support.
