The tycoons Ratefreund and Hoffegut scent big profits with Cloud Cuckoo Land, a planned urban utopia in the clouds. Mobilizing the birds for the project is a means to an end, their destruction by the wrath of the gods is nothing but collateral damage. Walter Braunfels' opera hovers between ancient material and new music as a biting social critique of a realm between heaven and earth. Director Ersan Mondtag returns to Wiesbaden after the success of "Double Serpent" - invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen 2025 - and examines the opera for new dreams and the greed for power.
