The camera roams through the empty house, examining every room, every nook and cranny. Until the estate agent appears and with her the family moving into their new home. Everyone in this family, the parents and their two teenage children, has their own problems. Only daughter Chloe seems to sense the strange presence in the house immediately. Is it perhaps the ghost of her recently deceased friend? At first, the signals are harmless: a book in the wrong place, a door slamming inexplicably. But then even the others can no longer deny what's happening, as the voice from beyond the grave becomes increasingly aggressive - to the point of an open outburst. The four are shocked and feel powerless. What should they do? Should they move out, consult a medium or simply ignore the threatening events? If only they understood the signs better...

Director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter David Koepp have teamed up once again. The work of these two exceptional talents is a stylistically remarkable and, despite its almost documentary-like simplicity, highly emotional film that has a long-lasting effect in its very own way.
