Preview: THE BRUTALIST - OmU

'The Brutalist' (based on the architectural style that liked to visibly use bare concrete: "Béton brut" is what Le Corbusier called the style in 1952) tells the story of the Jewish-Hungarian architect László Tóth, who tries to make a new start in the USA after the Second World War. Separated from his wife, whom he had to leave behind in Europe, he finds accommodation with a cousin, who immediately gets him a job: remodeling a library in the house of millionaire Harrison van Buren. However, this fails. The hopeful start ends in a fiasco. László becomes homeless and has to keep his head above water with odd jobs such as shoveling coal. His heroin addiction worsens and a reunion with his wife becomes a distant prospect. Then the eccentric millionaire reappears. He is looking for a visionary architect to build a "grand" structure in honor of his mother...
