Project Fear

In the organizer's words:

An artistic exploration of the question of whether we can ever find contentment - with who we are and what we have. Over the course of a year, the players have intensively explored their personal fears and how they are intertwined with our neoliberal system. They examine how fear not only protects us, but is also exploited economically - as a drive for performance, consumption and self-optimization.

Fear can go anywhere, get in anywhere and over everything. It is in me, in you, in the system in which we live. In terms of evolutionary biology, fear is essential for survival. No survival without fear. It warns us of danger and gets us moving. Our fear is also vital for our system: we perform, earn, build up, secure. We measure, compare, buy and consume. The market economy knows this too.

We have spent a whole year dealing with our fears. The internet has offered us many ways to be less afraid - less afraid of being alone, less afraid of not being smart enough, beautiful enough, good enough, normal enough.

But it all costs money, and we don't know if we'll ever have enough money.

Project Fear" was developed over a one-year rehearsal period with the youth ensemble 24 of the Jugendtheaterwerkstatt (jtw) Spandau. Once a week and on intensive weekends, the players dealt with their fears in connection with our neoliberal system.
