PULSE: grounded

In the organizer's words:

The string quartet PULSE presents its program grounded in the Exhalle

About PULSE:

PULSE is a progressive string quartet from Bremen. We let new musical ideas flow freely across all genres and boundaries. In collaborations and with the use of live electronics, we open up worlds of sound that would otherwise be inaccessible to a string quartet.

About grounded:

The music of grounded is rhythmically grounded and can therefore also be experienced physically. PULSE presents contemporary compositions whose composers open up new and individual worlds of sound. Mostly active in non-classical genres and therefore not often heard in Europe, they use unconventional sound languages. Jazz pianist Vijay Iyer commemorates the pioneer of funk James Brown in Dig the Say, along with Ashes by New York-based German saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and May Our Centers Hold by trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. The composers are also active as musicians, which is clear from the sound languages: the music is playful, musical and doesn't offend anyone. It is highly complex and innovative: we want to share this music because it is underrepresented. And because we love this cross-genre music. Our Top3 also includes Contritus by Caleb Burhans and Carrot Revolution by Gabriella Smith.
