Luise, known to everyone as Pünktchen, is actually a girl from a wealthy family. But she is not really happy. Her parents neglect her and her French housekeeper drives her to beg for money on the street because her dubious lover lets her put up with her. One day, when they are out on the street again, Pünktchen meets the boy Anton. He is also begging, but he is doing it out of genuine need because he lives alone with his sick mother in poor circumstances. Despite their different backgrounds, the two children become close friends and soon have their first adventure together when they realize that a stranger is planning to break into Pünktchen's parents' house...
