Qubur

In the organizer's words:

Founded in Osnabrück in 2018, the band Qubur is a quartet consisting of saxophone, piano/keyboards, bass and drums. With the exception of the drummer, all band members also play effects, creating a unique band sound. The core concern of this band is to play jazz without falling into improvisational "show-off" habits. It is about the deep connection between the musicians and the audience. In this band, simplicity and simple beauty always win out over artificial complexity and technical show-offs. Nevertheless, the music is never perceived as profane. The classical background of the majority of the band members is particularly noticeable in the dynamic and rhythmic subtleties. The dynamic spectrum of the band is very broad and ranges from chamber-musical playing to loud band sound. The agogic playing is very distinctive thanks to the diverse experience of the band members.

The pieces written by pianist Linus Haagen are woven into a unity within the concerts that is often calm and meditative, but can also transform into more moving or even ecstatic states depending on the mood and audience.

In the last 3 years, the band has played over 50 concerts in northern Germany and the Netherlands. They have played jazz clubs, music pubs and alternative cultural centers, and a reading by actress Blanche Komerell with texts by Anne Frank and improvised music by Qubur will take place in June 2022 in Osnabrück's Felix-Nussbaum-Haus.
