Emilia Roig is coming to Bremen City Library at the invitation of Queeraspora e.V. as part of queer.lit!
Emilia Roig holds a doctorate in political science and is the author of the bestsellers Why We Matter (2021) and The End of Marriage (2023). Roig is the author of numerous publications in German, English and French and has received several awards for her work.
About the book: The most personal text to date by the radically honest bestselling author and thinker Emilia Roig. A hopeful plea for contemporary forms of love and care
Emilia Roig stands for radical change. Whether she is calling for the end of racist oppression or the end of patriarchal marriage, she is driven by a longing for liberation and justice. Loving is also a plea for more justice, because love should be for everyone. In a patriarchal society, however, romantic love claims all aspects of this form of commitment for itself: desire, jealousy, intimacy, dependence, tenderness. In her first essay, Emilia Roig gives us deep insights into her own biography and revolutionizes our understanding of love: as a transformative energy that connects us not only with our family and friends, but with all people, nature and the cosmos. Her new book is an invitation to more solidarity, empathy and courage.
After queer.lit! was resumed in 2024, the reading series with a queer focus of the [virt.] Literaturhaus Bremen will continue in 2025! Once again, the focus will be on empowerment through queer language and performance and there will be several readings as well as various writing workshops - and queer.lit! will conclude this year with a reading stage where participants in the writing workshops will read their texts. The program is an invitation to read and write against the norm - for more visibility and self-empowerment!
