Ragasutra – Ein Abend mit klassischer indischer Musik mit Hindol Deb & Raga Sahana

Sitarist Hindol Deb and Shankh Lahiri on the tabla explore the hidden corners of the mind musically on this evening and take the listener on a journey of self-exploration.

Indian classical music is a form of improvised music with an introspective yet ecstatic aspect. The music is based on different modes with a specific structure and strict grammar, called raga, to express different emotions. Each raga is played at a specific time of the day to create the optimal psychosomatic effect. A unique aspect of this music is the use of all frequencies between the notes of an octave in the form of inflections and glides. For the listener as well as the musician, it is a process of inner exploration and a search for a connection to oneself.

Hindol Deb explores the infinite combinations in the crossover of Indian music with various other genres such as contemporary western classical, jazz, Nordic folk music. His search for new sounds and compositional styles led him to Germany to complete his Masters in Jazz Improvisation at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Among the artists Hindol has collaborated with are Marina Abramovic, Marcus Stockhausen, Sebastian Gramss, Mattias & Nina Perez and the intercultural folk music project 'Migrantis Aves'.

Shankh Lahiri is the founder and director of the Shruti Foundation & Shruti School of Music in the USA, which promotes the rich art of Indian classical music as well as cultural and intercultural music through its ongoing classes, concerts and workshops. As a tabla artist, singer, music educator, music producer and composer, he performs with artists around the world as well as with many young contemporary artists. Besides touring regularly as an international tabla, Shankh is also active with his cross-cultural projects 'Wahh World Fusion Band' and 'Shankh & Friends'.
