Ralf Bertscheit - „Wer zeichnet ?“

In the organizer's words:

Structures and processes of a geological, organic, linguistic, abstract, mathematical, cultural, biological, taxonomic or any other kind fascinate Ralf Bertscheit and inspire him to work artistically. He usually creates pictures, sometimes also actions or installations. In doing so, he follows the artistic motto "Understanding makes the mind sluggish" and, despite his enthusiasm for the natural sciences, counteracts a scientific approach that is all too controlled by reason and rationality. After all, this is about art with its own view of the world. Natural phenomena and natural structures are often the starting point of his work, which he continues to work on in his drawings, paintings and conceptions. In doing so, he tries first and foremost to show respect for the object he is working on by letting it "speak" and not patronizing and reinterpreting it through his own artistic intervention. The withdrawal of his own ego is the intended principle; the artist as creator steps back and places himself at the service of nature and art. He never thinks anything through to the end; everything in his art is always expandable and in the process of becoming and changing. The exhibition in Peripherie is therefore not intended to show a conclusive picture or a concept that has been thought through to the end, but rather processes of artistic work, thinking and not coming to an end. Ralf Bertscheit also sees this approach as an expression of respect for nature and its processes.

The centerpiece of the exhibition at Galerie Peripherie will be an approx. 6 x 5 m drawing developed from 75 maps of Baden-Württemberg at a scale of 1:50,000
was developed. Further pictorial and conceptual works will complete the exhibition. In them, Ralf Bertscheit deals with the questions "Who draws?" and consequently "Where do I end and where does the world begin?"
