"This movie is funny as f--- !"
British director Thea Sharrock's comedy is based on a true story from England in the 1920s. Neighbors Rose (Jessie Buckley) and Edith (Olivia Colman) are at the center of an affair involving anonymous obscene letters that gradually offend the residents of the small seaside town of Littlehampton.
The vivacious Rose Gooding has little in common with the pious Edith Swan, except that they are neighbors in the English seaside town of Littlehampton in the 1920s. But one day Edith and others in the town receive offensive letters peppered with vile accusations in foul language, and suspicion immediately falls on Rose. Scotland Yard investigates and Rose is even threatened with losing custody of her daughter. While the scandalous letters continue to haunt the town, only policewoman Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) suspects that something is wrong and that Rose may not be the guilty party after all...
