Money is at the heart of capitalism and its sustainability crises. But is money itself the issue, or the way it is designed and governed? In this talk, Ester Barinaga will explore how alternative monetary models-emerging from grassroots movements, municipalities, and the crypto space-are being reimagined to build a more just and sustainable future.

She will introduce three principles shaping the organization of money: the market, the state, and the commons, each fostering different economic and social dynamics. Through real-world examples, we will discuss how redesigning money could lead to stronger communities, healthier democracies, and sustainable economies.
