Existentialist action thriller based on the novel by James Sallis about a stuntman who works as a mafia driver at night.

During the day, Driver works inconspicuously as a stunt driver in Hollywood; at night, he gets his kicks by completing jobs for the mafia and proving his skills as a breakneck driver of getaway cars. When one of the heists goes wrong, he comes under the suspicion of his clients, who put a bounty on his head. From now on, he has to prove how much he cares about his survival.
During the day, Driver works as a stunt driver in Hollywood, while at night he gets his kicks by completing jobs for organized crime and proving his skills as a getaway driver. When he sees his attractive neighbor, who is raising her son alone because her husband is in prison, for the first time, he falls in love with her. After her husband's release, he is persuaded to take part in a robbery to secure the girl's future. Everything goes wrong and Driver has to fight for his survival.
