Presentation by Anna & Ida Lutzenberger

In May 2021, the two sisters Ana and Ida set off from Germany with the idea of cycling a long way east to raise one euro for the organization Seawatch for every kilometer they covered. The two of them never expected to cover 15,000 km and actually raise €15,000. And even less what the sisters experienced along the way.

For their fundraising project 'Rette Rette Fahrradkette', they crossed Central Asia before pedaling back home via Iran, Iraq and Turkey. The two report on their incredible encounters in the Kazakh steppe, Iranian police escorts, Uzbek border crossings and encounters with an Iraqi religious leader. They show how incredibly crazy, beautiful and exciting a long-distance bike trip can be, especially and perhaps particularly as a woman.
