Andalusian Christmas and flamenco with Ricardo Volkert & Ensemble

The Christmas living room of an Andalusian family is the starting point for a musical journey through the south of Spain. With racy flamenco guitars, virtuoso violoncello, polyphonic singing and expressive dancing, the musicians and dancers embark on a tour through the south of Spain. With melodious, sometimes lively, funny, satirical, sometimes gentle, tender and melancholy Christmas songs (villancicos) in their luggage. Stories about the birth of Christ, the futile search for shelter, the three Magi (Los Reyes Magos) and the caring shepherds at the manger in the stable. But there are also stories of faithful sailors ("Once upon a time there was a sailor...") and lavish coal merchants ("El Carbonero"). A Sevillana Biblica tells stories from the Old Testament of infidelity and betrayal, of King David, the beautiful Judith, Samson and Delilah.

As always, Ricardo Volkert leads the audience into an entertaining, poetic world of Andalusian Christmas imagery and tells exciting, interesting stories about the country and its people, saints and sinners, about the Spain of yesterday and today. The music: a spirited soundscape of sensuality, joie de vivre and passion. A Christmas evening in Advent, all about the south. Perfect for the cold season!
