The three-time winner of the German Record Critics' Award with guitarist Fabio Nettekoven as guests at Bistro Verde

Singer and slide guitarist Richard Bargel is one of the few innovative German blues musicians of note. On the road since 1965, the blues icon will not only be celebrating his 75th birthday in 2026, but also his 65th anniversary on stage. His latest album "Dead Slow Stampede" was awarded the "German Record Critics' Award". Two other Bargel productions received this prestigious award in 1992 and 2005. Bargel has played almost all the major festivals, toured all over Europe, worked in the USA and with renowned colleagues such as Freddy Koella (Willy DeVille / Bob Dylan), Klaus "Major" Heuser (ex - BAP), Paul Shigihara (WDR Big Band), Little Willie Littlefield, Big Jay McNeely and many more. He has toured twice with Grammy winner Charlie Musselwhite and their joint YouTube video has now received over 3 million views.
His legendary "Talkin' Blues Shows" (from 1992 to 2000), which Bargel organized weekly in Cologne with star guests such as Luther Allison, Johnny Copeland, Phil Upchurch, Götz Alsmann and many more, are still deeply rooted in the collective musical memory of the German blues scene today. Bargel is an innovative songwriter and blues poet par excellence. He possesses the expressiveness and integrity that is characteristic of great stage artists. His idiosyncratic and authentic playing on the slide guitar and his sophisticated original compositions have earned him international recognition. On stage, he celebrates the blues with tremendous intensity, a strong stage presence and a magical, raspy bass voice.
Together with guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Fabio Nettekoven, Richard Bargel presents a multi-layered repertoire in the duo formation "Family Business", which moves in the broad field of Americana music. In addition to blues, they also incorporate folk, rock and country elements into their songs and original compositions. The rousing concerts of the two protagonists testify to a blind musical understanding that is rarely seen in musicians.
