ROBIN HOOD GARDENS
D 2022 - 90' - OVD - Director: Thomas Beyer, Adrian Dorschner
London in the 1970s: After the shock of the war, architecture was gripped by a euphoric spirit of optimism. Architects such as Alison & Peter Smithson wanted to build spaces for a new, modern society with projects such as the Robin Hood Gardens and at the same time counter abstract modernism with "as found", a humane, human-centered architecture. The documentary follows the history of this brutalist social housing project through the decades to the present day, when the ensemble was partially demolished and individual parts were shipped to Venice and rebuilt there at the Architecture Biennale. ROBIN HOOD GARDENS addresses the contradictions and complexity of modern architecture and its implications for our society, but also poses the question of what we can learn from history for a better life in our cities of the future.
