In the organizer's words:

One of the greatest musical treasures of the Transoxania region in what is now Uzbekistan, the area between the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers on the historic Silk Road, is the Shashmaqam (Persian for "six maqams = keys). The classical song cycle reflects the peaceful diversity of the multi-ethnic desert oasis of Bukhara, where Hindus, Jews, Orthodox Russians, Persians, Mongols and Koreans lived. In Soviet times, the Shashmaqam was used for ideological purposes and its original form was distorted by pompous orchestrations. Today it is being revived by a new generation - and has been on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2003. Gulzoda Khudoynazarova is regarded as the future of shashmaqam: with her nuanced voice, she opens new doors for the genre and combines singing and instrumental music, poetry, performance and spiritual rites. The trio comes from Bukhara and presents this classical song form with strict accompaniment of the vocals by the instruments.
