ROOTED – Brasilianische Künstlerinnen

In the organizer's words:

Brainlab, a leading provider in the field of digital medical technology, is opening the exhibition "ROOTED - Brazilian Women Artists" at the company's headquarters in Munich-Riem on October 25. The exhibition is being held under the patronage of the Brazilian Embassy. Curated by art historian Tereza de Arruda, the exhibition was conceived especially for Brainlab. It presents works by Brazilian artists from the Vilsmeier - Linhares Collection as well as invited artists, some of whom have created new, site-specific works for the occasion.

The title "Rooted" refers to the relationship between man and nature that links all the works on display. Divided into individual aspects of this correlation, this exhibition follows on from "Unrooted", which deals with the traumas of our time resulting from displacement and voluntary migration. This sequence also creates the implied suggestion that by returning to our "roots", our anchoring in nature, we can also overcome uncertainty regarding identity and origin. Through the eyes of the Brazilian artists, we are invited to examine our own relationship with nature and draw new strength from it.

This exhibition - divided into the five segments of origin, identity, connectedness, nature and sustainability - shows the role that the human-nature relationship still plays for numerous contemporary female artists in Brazil today, after the artist Tarsila do Amaral, who is also represented in this exhibition and a pioneer of Brazilian modernism, coined a kind of "Tropical Expressionism" half a century ago.

The exhibition is open every Friday afternoon by appointment (click here to register). On October 26 at 11 a.m. there will be a guided tour for the public with the curator and the artists Rosilene Luduvico and Luzia Simons. Those interested can register via this link .
