"To say what is, remains the most revolutionary act" - this maxim by Rosa Luxemburg can be taken as a motto for the journalistic and publishing activities of the Junge Welt. The fact that the daily newspaper, founded in 1947, still exists today was made possible by the founding of Verlag 8. Mai GmbH and the cooperative LPG junge Welt as its owner 30 years ago.
This anniversary is the occasion for the Rosa Luxemburg Prize to be awarded for the first time. This prize, donated by Junge Welt and the cultural magazine Melodie & Rhythmus, is named after the controversial socialist, Marxist economist, co-founder of the KPD, internationalist and anti-militarist, who was murdered by reaction in 1919 for her steadfastness.
The award is intended to honor outstanding personalities from the fields of politics, culture, science, journalism and the labour movement who have consistently stood up for peace, the interests of the working population, international solidarity and enlightenment. In other words, for the values that also serve as a guide and compass for the young world.

This year, the prize will be awarded to the actor, humanist and committed trade unionist Rolf Becker . Becker, who will be 90 years old on March 31, 2025, has appeared in over 200 film and television productions as an actor and voice actor and also works as a radio play narrator. He has been known for his commitment for many years, not only to readers of Die junge Welt, visitors to the jW-Maigalerie and the International Rosa Luxemburg Conference. In addition to his artistic achievements, the award is also intended to honor Becker's courageous and consistent political stance.
