MARNELE does things differently. The newcomer from Bochum has decided that she doesn't have to choose - between punchlines and poetry, reflection and fighting spirit, melancholy and self-empowerment, unmistakable statements and metaphorically encrypted messages. MARNELE, that is timeless poetry expressed in contemporary rap singing; that is a sharp, thoughtful, world-wearied look outwards and into the self; that is a little bit Ruhrpott and a little bit Paris. What always remains the same? MARNELE's music plays in darkened rooms and nocturnal settings and is always enveloped in an abysmally calm text, sound and visual aesthetic. At the same time, there is always an irrepressible energy that only rarely tips over into dreaminess - a lyrical and vocal acuity bursting with urgency that casts a surreal spell.
