Rundgang 2025: Kurzfilme von Studierenden der KHM (Filmprogramm 7)

From Thursday to Sunday, the film program at Rundgang 2025 will present a total of 44 films by students of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) that have been made over the last twelve months as part of their studies. Feature films, documentaries, animations, experimental films and hybrid forms of cinematic storytelling will be shown in 13 program blocks in the auditorium of the KHM and in the Filmforum at the Museum Ludwig.

Sunny's mother is dead. The young woman wanders alone through the night-time corridors of the palliative care ward as she waits for the death certificate to be issued. Next to buzzing drinks machines and empty benches, she meets Carla. The two wait together until morning.

A fragmentary return to a summer house in Ukraine that exists only in dreams and memories. The film explores why this place of childhood is so deeply anchored in the unconscious and blurs the boundaries between reality, memory and dream.

Nuestra sombra, 2024, 20 min.

"Nuestra Sombra" is set against the backdrop of a solar eclipse that causes unrest in the province of Misiones in north-eastern Argentina. The people living there are threatened by exploitation and the deforestation of their habitat. The main character Maria, an embodiment of existential uncertainty in the face of the encroaching darkness, reflects on the hidden forces that shape our world.

Red Wall Fiction, 2024, 20 min.

"Red Wall Fiction" is a cinematic meditation on the continuation and presence of memories. In the context of the Chinese diaspora, "Red Wall Fiction" bears witness to memories of traumatic experiences in China's history through X-rays and a letter.

A RECONNAISSANCE, 2024, 28 min.

There is hardly any information about the long-range military drone Heron 1, which monitors Europe's borders over the Mediterranean. What begins as desktop research about this drone becomes an investigation into the present and future of surveillance technology, where Frontex, the military-industrial complex and a planespotting community collide. After the screening, the directors, authors and image designers present will talk about the process of making their films and introduce their film teams in a discussion with the audience.
