In the organizer's words:

Film Premiere in Berlin and Conversation

"sā", meaning soil in Ladakhi language, is Asia's highest contemporary land art Biennale at 3600m. It was founded with a deep passion for landscapes and the communities that inhabit them. Held in Ladakh, one of the northernmost regions of the Indian Himalayas, near the Karakorum, the Biennale actively engages people, particularly young adults, in exploring the relationship between art and the environment. It aims to cultivate a heightened sensitivity to and a deeper connection with nature through artistic expression, fostering meaningful interactions between the local community, artists, and audiences. For its second edition in June 2024, artists were invited to submit proposals under the theme "The Future of Immersive Land Art / Immersive Land Art and the Future," incorporating site-specific installations, sculptures, and, for the first time, immersive audiovisual performances.

Following the film's screening, we aim to engage in an open discussion between Angelina Kumar, Friederike Schäfer, and Paula Böke about the potential and challenges of creating and experiencing art on-site, its South Asian context, as well as how this Biennale may present new perspectives on Land Art.
