The composer and singer Rosa Morena Russa (real name Kateryna Ostrovska) presents her first choro album "Chora Berlim" at o-ton in Cologne. She composes across cultural boundaries, engages with a wide variety of musical traditions and combines them in her music to create a unique blend. We are delighted to have Rosa, a true musical citizen of the world, as a guest on o-ton.

ORF: "Cross-country between klezmer and choro"

"The Spielräume celebrate two cases of cultural appropriation of the finest kind. On the one hand, there is the German-based Jewish-Ukrainian-Russian musician Kateryna Ostrovska, who calls herself Rosa Morena Russa and pays homage to Brazilian choro music on her latest album "Chora Berlim", primarily as a composer and with a huge, colorful bunch of musicians from Hamburg, Berlin and Rio de Janeiro."

The album "Chora Berlim" with ten self-composed instrumental choros was created in close cooperation between choro musicians from Brazil and Germany. It was released on September 19, 2024. Choro is Brazil's first authentic urban music genre, which has now conquered all continents. The members of choro communities meet regularly for democratic jam sessions (rodas) and also visit each other, creating a lively (national and international) exchange. After its release in Germany, their album met with a very positive response in Europe, Brazil, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan and South Korea.

Individual pieces can now be heard on the Rodas in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Nuremberg and Fortaleza and on this evening in our o-ton - together with some traditional Brazilian songs
