The Search for Volcano Islands
The Aleutian Islands are among the most remote and unexplored places on earth. And so it goes without saying that large parts of the island chain have never been explored by surfers. In this film, five brothers take part in the first boat expedition of its kind, venturing into a mysterious region in search of a dream. Director Ben Weiland combines often breathtaking images with human stories of perseverance, curiosity and connection to the natural world. His ability to combine artistic filming with authentic storytelling makes his work an experience for adventure fans and audiences alike.
Granny Grommets
A grommet in the surfing lexicon refers to a novice surfer, usually a younger person. The Granny Grommets, however, claim the term for themselves, ignoring the looming threat of sharks and the worries of their anxious offspring to conquer the waves of Albany - with bodyboards in tow. The Granny Grommets, a group almost 90 women strong, come from all walks of life and with all the life experiences that come with being an older person to bodyboard
every Friday morning at Middleton Beach in Albany, Western Australia. What unites them is their love of the sea. For some it's more than just a weekly exercise class, for others it's a place where they find a sense of identity. This film ultimately reflects the healing and transformative power that community and friendship have for us in later life.
Currents of Devotion
The film CURRENTS OF DEVOTION follows the journey of our surfer Maud Le Car, a French professional surfer who has dedicated her life to the ocean. After intense experiences in competitive surfing, Maud is now experimenting with freesurfing. Her goal is no longer to prove anything, but simply to enjoy the waves and give back to the sea what it has given her. With her association Save La Mermaid, Maud educates new generations about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. On a trip to Indonesia, she meets a local skateboard club that helps children build a better future. The film shows the connection between the two clubs, both based on the belief that pursuing one's passions, whether in the waves or on the streets, can have a positive impact.
Tides & Trails
Six athletes, four vans, endless freedom: in cold March, the six athletes Finn Springborn, Lena Kemna, Jonathan Isselstein, Lia Geerke, Christina Gindl and Korbinian Engstler head north to Scotland. With them: surfboards, kites, mountain bikes and diving fins! Instead of soft hotel beds, sleeping bags in a camper van. They are rewarded with the endless expanses of the wild Highlands and the picturesque rugged coastline.
