Sanaz Starcic - "Three Skies.Blue"
Opening January 26 | 11-16h
Artist talk: March 8, 2025 | 15-16h
Exhibition duration: January 26 - March 15, 2025
The multimedia video installation "Three Skies.Blue" by Sanaz Starcic, shown in the project space of Galerie Seippel, deals with the inner states of freedom and captivity and their complex relationship to each other. The work developed from the artist's autobiographical experience of the process of becoming a mother, known as matrescence[1]. Formally, Starcic uses the element of water and its aggregate states as a metaphor for inner processes. Nature is understood as a living mirror that reflects human emotions such as security, vulnerability and strength, thus enabling a poetic approach to existential themes.
The space comprises a composition of video, floor objects and a sound composition by Eduard Starcic. Visitors are invited to linger in the atmospheric blue.
In her multimedia installations and scenographies, the media artist creates surreal spaces that combine stories of human existence with natural elements. Her works, characterized by a dreamlike and abstract aesthetic, deal with themes such as identity, home and the role of women. Her approach is to make people and their stories, who find themselves on the margins of society, audible and visible.
Sanaz Starcic studied Media Arts at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and Video Art at the University of the Arts Bremen. She works as a solo artist and in collaborations and collectives. In collaboration with her husband Eduard Starcic, she has been working for Mediawelle in the field of art and film education since 2013. She stages video projections as digital stage design in the fields of dance, theater and opera and is a member of the association Conmidea, which is committed to the visibility of art from the MENA region. She is also a founding member of the artist collective Artistladieslovelove, which promotes collaborative artistic support for international female artists.
[1] Matrescence is the term used to describe the transition and changes that women go through when they become mothers. This phase includes emotional, physical and social changes and can bring both challenges and positive experiences. Matrescence is similar to adolescence in that it is about integrating and embracing the new identity and role as a mother. It is a complex process that often extends beyond birth and continues to evolve throughout the child's early years.
