New York artist Sarah Kinsley is fascinated by the creation of imaginary worlds and alternative realities. She tries to conjure them up with her music, but it requires the unfolding of one's imagination to really get there. Sarah encourages you to try anyway. We all need an escape.
In that sense, Sarah's first album is called "Escaper", and which world you want to escape to is ultimately your choice. This is vibrant, brave, beautiful music that deals with death and loss, the decimation of old friendships, the shortcomings of romantic love compared to love with close friends and strained relationships that blossomed and then fizzled out. It sounds very self-aware, a genuine piece of work. "A big part of my coping with life, pain and horrible experiences is creating spaces where you can turn into someone else to distract yourself - as a means of coping with grief," says Sarah. She processes it all like the centerpiece of an epic poem, with highly dramatic melodies and huge, sweeping choruses.
