A daughter stands in the apartment of her suddenly deceased mother. Her mother is gone, as are all her savings. What remains are questions: Why is the apartment so chaotic, the letterbox so full? And how is it even possible to lose your own mother to a marriage fraudster?

Sarah Kuttner tells the story of a woman who was looking for love and met a love scammer. Who fell in love and closed her eyes. Who left nothing behind but a seemingly endless chat with the scammer. But above all, it is the story of a daughter who is left behind, with a blank space where her mother once was.

So the daughter reads the messages that were not meant for her, reads things about herself that she never wanted to know. And yet, very slowly, the blank space is filled with a closeness that was not possible for either of them during their lifetime.

A novel about the feeling of guilt, the pain of being left behind and the unwanted intimacy of an estate.
