Saša Stanišić prä­sentiert „Möchte die Witwe ange­sprochen werden,...“

What if you hadn't made this one decision, but that other one? What if you had defied expectations? And then there is still the fear of having been a coward, of having hesitated too long and missed out on something, a better self, greater happiness, funnier pets and partners.

Saša Stanišić takes us with his work Would the widow like to be addressed... to places where it is suddenly possible: to take the more difficult path, to make an unusual choice or to tell a good lie.

Like the cleaner who decides, with a goat hair brush in her hand, to finally take life into her own hands. Just like the lawyer who is prepared to cheat in order to finally win against his eight-year-old son in Memory. And like the German-Bosnian writer who travels to Heligoland for the first time, only to realize that he has already been to Heligoland once before.

The best thing would be to experience a life on a trial basis before actually living it.

The event will be moderated by Emily Grunert (Head of Literaturbüro NRW) and takes place in cooperation with the Heinrich Heine Institute Düsseldorf. Admission starts at 18:30, the event begins at 19:00.
