The sovereign is the one who decides on the state of emergency." - Carl Schmitt was also such a loudmouth, otherwise he wouldn't have become Göring's eggnog. Germany's worst advocate wrote the famous sentence in 1928, and we've been chewing on it ever since. Barely a hundred years later, there is a state of emergency on every corner - but who is the sovereign? Some say so, others say: the people. As always, the truth lies somewhere else entirely.
Mathias Tretter once again finds it with his friend Ansgar: "Being stoned is a state of emergency, and I've decided in favor of it." Democracy may be gradually losing its grip, but that doesn't mean you have to lose your self-control. Unless you wet yourself laughing - but isn't that the most sovereign thing of all? "They'll neigh," says Tretter, who has finally won every cabaret award since the Salzburger Stier 2023. Nevertheless, his latest piece is his funniest:
"You'll hiccup, snort, gasp and go home invulnerable at the end." In other words: sovereign. The name says it all.

Venue of the event

The Capitol in Bremerhaven is a popular venue for political cabaret. Well-known names from the satire and cabaret scene regularly perform here. However, the Capitol doesn't just see itself as a stage, but wants to offer more than just a show.

The "Arbeitnehmerkammer kulturell" has been organizing a varied theater programme in Bremerhaven since 1988 and thus makes an important contribution to a colourful and sustainable urban development. Since 1993, the Capitol has played an important role as a forum for artistic, political, intercultural and interpersonal exchange. In short: Capitol is a place for everyone! The diversity of people and lifestyles that come together here is also reflected in the program of events. Every year from January to May and from September to December, a wide variety of artists, satirists and comedians take to the stage to present their world view to the audience in a humorous or serious, but always intelligent and entertaining way. The "SATIRICA", a festival that has long enjoyed great popularity among satire fans, also takes place in November.
