In the organizer's words:
It was the citizens of Erlangen, organized in an association, who began collecting art over 30 years ago. Their aim was to secure the works of Erlangen's artists for posterity through purchases and donations. However, the circle of acquisitions was soon expanded to such an extent that the collection area eventually extended to all Franconian administrative districts and the Upper Palatinate.
The now municipal collection has now reached a considerable size. But the really exciting thing about it is the extremely diverse artistic styles and a fascinating world of pictures and objects. The exhibition will present this immense treasure: For the first time, the complete cycle of the panoramic wallpaper Adventures of Telemachus can be seen again; world literature by Goethe, Dante or Kafka have become the models for pictorial design; perfectly shaped ceramic creations and the variety of different materials such as metal, weaving or glasswork unfold their uniqueness - complemented by Villa Massimo prizewinners, which make this collection a true treasure trove.
