Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival 2025 - Night of the Drums

The playing of percussion star Alexej Gerassimez has been described as "elegant and enormously virtuosic" (WDR 3). Together with three accomplished colleagues, he will shake the halls in Lübeck and Lüneburg at the SHMF. Central to the program is his "Suite of Elements", which focuses on five different basic materials: water, wood, metal, stone and skin. Music can be made wonderfully on all of them, as the four percussionists will demonstrate skillfully and imaginatively. The suite is interwoven with various stages of Turkish music history. For example, the touching song "Sarı Gelin" about the challenge of love between a Turkish Muslim and an Armenian Christian woman will be performed. Some of the compositions were also written by Gerassimez's playing partner Emil Kuyumcuyan. Born in Istanbul, his works combine Anatolian music with contemporary classical music and jazz to create a colorful and captivating mixture. You can look forward to rhythmic sophistication and virtuoso sound acrobatics in a class of their own!
