SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE

The SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe is a festival for projection mapping. Projection mapping is a form of media art in which customized video projections are projected onto an object. International artists develop 3D video mappings for the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE, which are projected onto the façade of Karlsruhe Palace - every evening for several weeks. The result is one of the largest audiovisual digital works of art in Europe.

The motto of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe 2025 is "The Shining Lights of Science". To mark the 200th anniversary of the KIT Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, artists will focus on the achievements and fields of research of this globally outstanding university. Using the sensual and technically advanced visual language of projection mapping, the works tell an impressive story of how scientific solutions and findings are constantly evolving into building blocks of our physical and digital world.

Program

The program changes regularly and there are always several shows running consecutively on one evening. A detailed schedule can be found on site during the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE and at a later date on the website under "Program".

Food & drink

Catering is available on the Schlossplatz. Due to the central location of the venue, it is also a good idea to eat or shop in Karlsruhe city center before the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELEN.

Accessibility

Karlsruhe's Schlossplatz is easily accessible. Please note that the grounds include green areas and gravel paths. There is a platform with good visibility for wheelchair users in front of a guard's house in the courtyard of honor (at the front of the palace). Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available.

Competition - Karlsruhe Palace is your canvas

Design the palace façade the way you want the world of tomorrow to be. Show us your ideas for a beautiful future - and with a bit of luck, your picture will be shown at the Schlosslichtspiele from September 1 to 14.

The mail template is available in all dm stores in the Karlsruhe district and in Durmersheim or can be downloaded here (printout in A3 format). The colored template with the signature of the parent/guardian can be handed in at the participating dm stores by August 2.

The 12 winning pictures will be drawn in the age categories 3 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 years. Each winning child will receive a surprise dm picnic basket and tickets for an age-appropriate leisure activity in Karlsruhe at the prize-giving ceremony on September 5.

In principle, the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe shows run in all weathers. However, if there are safety concerns, e.g. due to thunderstorms or strong winds/storms, the shows may be interrupted or canceled at short notice. We will inform you about this on our social media channels and on site.
