SCHOECK vs. BAUER - What futures are you longing for?

In "What futures are you longing for?", Swiss baritone Robert Koller and Swiss pianist Stefan Kägi juxtapose the song cycle Nachhall op 70 by Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck with the song cycle Afterimages by Munich composer Michael Emanuel Bauer. Afterimages is a continuation of Nachhall op 70, which is loosely based on Mark Fisher's concept of Hauntology. In contrast to Retromania, Hauntology stands for the
refusal to give up the desire for the future. In the Munich concert, "What futures are you longing for?" is taken to the extreme, with flautist Monika Olszak and laptop guitarist Gunnar Geisse improvisationally continuing Bauer's afterimages. The outcome is uncertain...
