The final concert of the Shostakovich Festival 2025 promises an epic experience with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and conductor Andris Nelsons. The 14th Symphony op. 135, in which the composer explores his philosophical examination of life and death, will be presented with the impressive soprano Kristine Opolais and bass Dmitry Belosselskiy as soloists. After an intermission, the powerful masterpiece of the 10th Symphony in E minor op. 93 follows, which is considered one of Shostakovich's most impressive symphonies and demands everything in its drama and deep emotionality. This concert is the fitting conclusion to a festival that celebrates Shostakovich's revolutionary musical language in many different ways.
