Experience an impressive recital that celebrates the diversity and depth of Dmitri Shostakovich's vocal oeuvre. On stage are the outstanding singers Elena Stikhina (soprano), Marina Prudenskaya (alto), Bogdan Volkov (tenor) and Günther Groissböck (bass), accompanied by the pianist Elena Bashkirova.
The evening begins with the moving "Satires" (Pictures of the Past) - Five Romances for soprano and piano on texts by the poet Sascha Tschorny (op. 109), which reflect Shostakovich's astute observations and humor. This is followed by the song cycle "From Yiddish Folk Poetry" for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and piano (op. 79a), an emotional climax that transforms the world of Jewish folklore into impressive music.
After the interval, you will experience the "Suite after poems by Michelangelo Buonarroti" for bass and piano (op. 145), an intense work that translates the philosophical and emotional depths of Michelangelo's poetry into Shostakovich's masterful sound world.
